Principal Uses

• the interview gathers data to allow reliable diagnoses to be made for the purposes of research.

• the interview provides a useful training tool for clinicians in how to ask about symptoms and in how the ICD and DSM diagnostic criteria are operationalised.
  "If you want to know how to ask questions about depression or about the symptoms required to meet criteria for the diagnosis, I suggest you go through the CIDI-Auto several times."
• the interview provides clinical support.
  "I think this person has recurrent depressive episodes. Have them complete the CIDI-Auto. They may tell the computer what they are unwilling to tell us."
  

Principal Outputs

ICD-10 Diagnoses according to criteria, with age of first onset and whether the diagnosis is current.

DSM-IV Diagnoses according to criteria, with age of first onset and whether the diagnosis is current.

Output files contain all textual and numerical responses made during the interview. Data is stored in a form suitable for analysis by statistical packages such as SPSSX and SAS.
