CRUFAD

The Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression, is a group of researchers and clinicians concerned with anxiety and depression. The WHO Collaborating Centre is concerned with epidemiology and health policy, and the UNSW School of Psychiatry, of which we are part, has strong research interests in anxiety and depression. The anxiety and depressive disorders are the commonest mental disorders and generate the majority of the burden of disease attributed to mental disorders. While effective treatments exist, in most countries coverage is low, clinician competence variable and patient compliance poor. It is no wonder that the burden of anxiety and depression persists. This web page is a contribution to improving this state of affairs. It is funded by the sales of resource materials.

CRUFAD is a joint facility of St Vincent's Hospital Ltd and the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. The research unit is in an historic building, built as Sydney's first reception house for the mentally ill. The anxiety disorders clinic is located in what was the superintendent's residence. It is on the edge of Sydney's central business district.
